“YOU MADE ME breakfast?”

Sierra stood in the doorway of her kitchen and stared. She couldn’t keep the delighted pleasure out of her voice. Or off her face, judging by how wide her grin felt. But she didn’t care. He’d made her breakfast. Real food, even, not just cereal and milk. Besides a bowl of melon, Sierra spied French toast, bacon and, if her nose didn’t deceive her, fried potatoes. Yum.

Her heart, already vulnerable after the night’s passion, stuttered. Make that four bouts of passion, she reminded herself as she shifted her bare thighs beneath the tails of his barely buttoned white dress shirt. But she’d never had a guy cook for her before. Granted, she’d never let a guy spend the night before, either.

Nor had she intended to let Reece stick around. But every time she’d thought about booting him out, he’d thought of ways to drive her crazy. Exhausted but well-satisfied, she’d finally fallen asleep at daybreak, draped over his deliciously spent body.

Since it was a Sunday, she’d have automatically slept till noon, but the very yummy scent of food had woken her.

“I hope you don’t mind,” Reece said.

She eyed him standing there bare chested and poured into a pair of well-worn jeans—where’d they come from, she wondered—with his naked toes peeking out from beneath the ragged hem. His hair was sleep-tousled, his jaw dusky with the night’s growth, and he held a spatula in his hand.

“Mind?” she repeated. “Only if you burn the food.”

His laugh was fast and wicked. “I cook like I do everything,” he assured her. “Damned good.”

Sierra gave him a slow, easy smile and stepped forward to trace her hand over his warm, bare chest. “Then this meal should be incredible.”

“The best you’ve ever eaten,” he bragged, handing her a plate filled with golden French toast, fried red potatoes and crispy bacon.

Sierra took the plate and gave him a long, considering look. “We’ll have to see, won’t we?”

No way was she stroking the man’s ego. She’d stroked everything else quite nicely, so he didn’t need any more.

She swallowed her first mouthful of rich egg-battered bread and gave a moan of pleasure. “The only thing better than this,” she told him as she scooped up another bite, “is sex. If you want to do me and feed me both at the same time, it’d be like dying and going to heaven.”

She bit into her bacon, the crisp hickory flavor perfect with the maple syrup from the French toast. “Definitely heaven.”

“Want coffee?” Reece asked, holding up the carafe.

Her mouth full, she just nodded. God, what a man. He understood great sex, good food and the need for caffeine.

Now this was the way to rock a morning after. And she’d worried it’d be awkward? Oh, not over the sex. She’d figured good sex didn’t require blushing, stammering or weirdness the morning after. But that whole pathetic thing about falling apart over the knife? That had been fertile ground for awkwardness.

The memory of the knife, the threat, filled her head. She could barely breathe when the image tried to grab hold of her.
